  Gdansk Poland

Gdansk, Poland is one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe. It began as a modest seaport during the 10th century. Located right on the Motlawa River, near the Vistula Delta, Gdansk provides easy access to the Baltic Sea. Indeed, it's been a center of trading and commerce for all of Northern Europe for more than a millennium, and it continues to support a large and diverse population. Recent census figures put the city's population around 460,000+.

The German influence on Gdansk cannot be denied. German cuisine and cultural compositions abound in the city. Gdansk also played an important role in Poland's liberation from Soviet domination. The most prominent figure in the Polish Solidarity movement, Lech Walesa, was born and raised in Gdansk, and many streets and promenades pay homage to his legacy.

Together with Sopot, a spa town, and Gdynia, Gdansk forms what's known as the Tri-City region. This metropolitan area is home to more than one million people. Gdansk boasts both major attractions and minor cultural treasures. From the Tri-City Landscape Park to the Dolina Radosci Valley, the region is brimming with interesting and unique landscapes and artifacts.
